Two new pathway murals by Tlaxcala artists unveiled

JACKSON, Wyo. — Pathway users can enjoy two brand-new murals in the Skyline Ranch tunnel, thanks to artists Pedro Avelino Alcántara and Francisco Jesús Saldaña Perez.

The large-scale paintings were unveiled at a celebration on Friday, April 26, and Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer was there to document the fresh artwork.

The murals, made possible by JH Public Art and JH Community Pathways, were both created by artists from Tlaxcala, home to Jackson’s new Sister City and also the homeland of a large portion of Jackson’s Latino community.

Alcántara, who painted the east side mural, was present at the unveiling. His piece, “Root, Culture and Migration,” chronicles the history of Hueyotlipan.

Saldaña Perez created the west side mural, “The Shape of the Road,” which depicts the immigration process. According to JH Public Art’s announcement of the murals, Saldaña Perez moved to Jackson from Tlaxcala when he was 15, and the piece is based on his experiences.
