Two Vocalists Earn Major Prizes at Young Texas Artists’ 2024 Music Competition

Young Texas Artists announced the winners of its 2024 Music Competition.

“The night was filled with so many memorable moments,” said Susie Moore Pokorski, Young Texas Artists President/CEO, in an official press statement. “I loved seeing the creative approach guests took to our “jeans to jewels” dress code, from cowboy boots and hats to all-out Texas bling. It was wonderful to see people enjoying the music and food, laughing, and most of all, coming together to support emerging classical musicians.”

While the Grand Prize winner was pianist Daeun Han, soprano Krista Renée Pape was among the Gold Medal Winners, receiving $5,000. Pape is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the University of Houston.

Meanwhile, mezzo-soprano Joanne Evans, enrolled in the Master’s Degree program at the Bard College Conservatory of Art, was among the Silver Medal recipients. Silver Medalists receive a $3,000 cash prize.

Other gold medal winners include cellist Maximus Gurath and saxophonist Rachel Jimenez. The other Silver Medalists were pianist Xin Cui, cellist Claire Druffner, and tuba player Roberto Gaitan,
