WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — The Woodstock Artists Association & Museum will host an upcoming exhibition of mid-20th-century regional art featuring works from more than 20 artists starting Friday, April 19.
The exhibition, titled “Circa 1969: Selections from the Permanent Collection,” will include artwork made by 21 artists between 1968 and 1972. The exhibition includes art from several mediums, featuring paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and sculptures.
According to an announcement from the museum, the artworks are emblematic of the time, dealing with various social and political transitions. Pieces on display like Richard Florsheim’s “Combat” depict opposition to the Vietnam War. Other pieces reflect social and cultural attitudes of the time, like Mari Lyons’ “1969,” which portrays the iconic “hippie style.”
Among the artists included in the exhibition are Franklin Alexander, Julio de Diego, Bruce Dorfman, Lily Ente, Florsheim, Cecile Germaine, Grace Greenwood, Manette van Hamel, Albert Handell and Gary Hill. Others include Elliott Landy, Lyons, Georges A. Malkine, Barbara Neustadt, William Pachner, Katherine Schmidt, Kurt Sluizer, and Bernard Steffen.
The artwork will be on display from through Sunday, Aug. 11. in the Phoebe and Belmont Towbin Wing of the museum, located at 28 Tinker St.. The gallery is open Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
