John W. (Wally) Ludwiczak

John W. (Wally) Ludwiczak, 99, of Jamestown, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023.

A lifelong area resident, he was born September 7, 1924, in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Pilat Ludwiczak.

John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving from March 17, 1943 – November 3, 1945, during World War II. During his tour of duty, he was a member of the Company F 43rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron earning the American Theater Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge from the Army he continued his relationships with his fellow Cavalrymen by attending 57 Army reunions.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a security guard for the former Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 27 years. In earlier years he had worked for the former Art Metal Corporation for several years.

He was a longtime communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.

In previous years he enjoyed many summers at the cottage at Sunnyside on Chautauqua Lake, and his many trips to Myrtle Beach with his family and friends. He also enjoyed taking part in the World War II veteran programs at the Fenton History Center and the Robert H. Jackson Center.

Surviving are his three children, JoAnn (Stewart Westerlund) Bardo of Frewsburg, NY, Kathy (Tim) Burns of Ashville, NY, Jeffrey Ludwiczak of Falconer, NY, four grandchildren, Laura Burns of Jamestown, Daniel (Sara) Burns of Clymer, NY, Megan (Tim Lovejoy) Ludwiczak, Brooke (Greg) Mareri both of Jamestown, his great grandson Beau Burns of Clymer, NY and a sister, Dorothy Ludwiczak of Jamestown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife the former Eleanor C. Kowalski Ludwiczak whom he married June 11, 1949, and who died October 7, 2009, two brothers, Raymond Ludwiczak, and Edward Ludwiczak and three sisters, Mary Skrzypek, Helen Ludwiczak, and Alice Ludwiczak.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
