The Spanish artist Bea Sarrias has painted a portrait of Eurojust’s headquarters as part of a live performance carried out in the hall of the building between 3 and 7 July. The project, called ‘European Light’, is an initiative of the Spanish National Desk at Eurojust, with the support of the Ministry of Justice and the Embassy of Spain in The Hague. It marks the start of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which began on 1 July.
The painting aims to capture the diverse and changing light of Europe as a metaphor for the need to work together within the EU. The artist was inspired by the light in the building, the colours of the surroundings and Eurojust’s staff, who were able to interact with the artist and watch the entire artistic process unfold. The painting will be on display at Eurojust until the end of the year.
In the domain of Justice and Home Affairs, the Spanish Presidency will work on enhancing the area of freedom, security and justice. Particular emphasis will be placed on gradually aligning national legislations, digitalising the justice system that serves citizens and protecting crime victims, particularly vulnerable groups.
