IMG Artists is delighted to welcome the six-time GRAMMY® Award-winning conductor Giancarlo Guerrero to our roster for European management. He will be represented by Senior Vice President Derek Chandruang.
Guerrero has been praised for his “charismatic conducting and attention to detail” (Seattle Times) in “viscerally powerful performances” (Boston Globe) that are “at once vigorous, passionate, and nuanced” (Bachtrack).
Guerrero said, “When we met earlier this year I was immediately impressed by Derek Chandruang’s enthusiasm for music and commitment to his artists. Now in his 15th season as Music Director of the Nashville Symphony, Guerrero has notably championed the works of prominent American composers, leading the Nashville Symphony in eleven world premieres and fifteen recordings of American music. Guerrero recently completed a six-season tenure as Music Director of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. With that orchestra, Guerrero made recordings including the Billboard chart-topping Bomsori: Violin on Stage on Deutsche Grammophon.
Guerrero has been a frequent guest conductor in North America, performing with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and the orchestras of Boston, Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Montréal, Philadelphia, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and Houston. Internationally he has led orchestras in Germany, London, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia.
Guerrero’s 2023/24 season has included return engagements with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Orchestra and Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao. Next season, he returns to San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and the Sarasota Orchestra.
Guerrero spent a decade conducting the Cleveland Orchestra and held the post of Principal Guest Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency. He has also served as Music Director of the Eugene Symphony, and Associate Conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra.
Born in Nicaragua, Guerrero immigrated during his childhood to Costa Rica, where he joined the local youth symphony. He came to the US to study at Baylor University in Texas and at Northwestern University where he earned his master’s degree. Given his beginnings in civic youth orchestras, Guerrero is particularly engaged with conducting training orchestras and has worked with the Curtis School of Music, Colburn School in Los Angeles, National Youth Orchestra (NYO2) and Yale Philharmonia, as well as with the Nashville Symphony’s Accelerando programme.
