Music Club recital
The Music Club of Baton Rouge will present the recital, “Sounds of Sondheim,” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in First United Methodist Church’s Conference Center, 930 North Blvd. The recital will feature performances by Daisha Badon, Steve Clawson, Jennifer Ellis, Lance Parker, David Randall, Celeste Angelle Veillon and Richard Williams, all accompanied by pianist Mary Bresowar. The West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, will open “Small Wonders: Insects in Focus” on Saturday, Nov. 11. By using cutting-edge technology and custom methods, artist Bob Sober created an exhibition of breathtaking beauty that allows viewers to see the hidden world of insects like they’ve never seen it before. The opening will include a beetle sculpting workshop for kids and a beetle pendant workshop for adults. The show runs through Jan. 14.
Also on Nov. 11, the museum will open “Off the Hook: A Journey Beneath the Waves” by Katherine Klimitas. This exhibition is Katherine Klimitas’ latest collection of vibrant watercolor paintings. River City Jazz Masters
Celebrate 100 years of Disney through the lens of jazz with “When You Wish Upon a Star,” the second installment of the River City Jazz Masters series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette. The show will feature songs from such Disney classics as “Snow White,” “Lady & the Tramp,” “Mary Poppins,” “Toy Story” and “The Jungle Book” by The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, featuring pianist/musical director Sean Mason and vocalists Kim Nalley and Sasha Dobson. The Capitol Park Museum, 660 N. Fourth St., will host James Linden Hogg in Lunchtime Lagniappe! from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. The Baton Rouge resident wears many hats — historian, musician and storyteller. In 2022, he captivated readers with “Finding Faith in the Waste Land,” a literary work that combines philosophy and humor to explore the intricate journey of life’s pursuit of purpose. A Tale of Two Times
