The Old Masters – Paintings & Sculptures sales in Paris and online achieved a result close to €10m, a record for Old Masters at Christie’s in Paris

The sales featured a selection of European works spanning more than six hundred years, from the 13th to the 19th century. A variety of works for a wide range of collectors, making these sales a unique opportunity to acquire some of the most celebrated names in European fine art.

The highlight of the live sale was An alabaster vase filled with flowers, on a marble table with a pineapple, peaches and grapes by Anne Vallayer-Coster, sold €2,581,000, a world record for an artwork by the artist. A Saint Jerome by José de Ribera reached €2,036,500. Two works from the live sale were preempted: a Portrait of François Hercule of France, Duke of Alençon and later of Anjou by François Clouet and workshop by the Musée Condé de Chantilly and Landscape with antique ruins and figures by Pierre Patel the Elder by the Musée du Grand Siècle.
The online sale was led by Fédora (Portrait of Sarah Bernhardt) painted by Alfred Stevens, which tripled its low estimate, reaching €277,200. The painting Stag hunting by the English School of early 19th century, sold for €88,200, multiplying its high estimate by 7.
