Poet Gary Young and visual artist Rose Sellery share a moment at m.k. contemporary art, a gallery in downtown Santa Cruz now showing “Broadsides: Pairing Artworks with Poetry.” The show runs through Jan. 16 and the gallery will host a First Friday reception on Jan. 5. Broadsides brings together diverse voices from the local poetry scene and pairs their writings with highly accomplished local and regional visual artists. This unique collaboration offers a chance to explore the profound connections between art and poetry. The exhibition was thoughtfully curated by Donna Mekis and Sellery, with the broadside design crafted by Young, who is the director of the Cowell Press at UC Santa Cruz. Broadsides is made possible through the generous support of The Humanities Institute, and Special Collections and Archives at UC Santa Cruz, Mark Ong and Side By Side Studios and Community Printers.
