The Lansdowne Economic Development Corp. will hold its annual A Bit of the Arts Holiday Fine Art Show and sale at the 20th Century Club, 84 S. Lansdowne Ave., Lansdowne, on Black Friday, Nov. 24 and Nov. 25.
The hours on the free event are the 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. and on the 25th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Bit of the Arts is celebrating its 22nd year, having started in a home in Lansdowne and moving to the 20th Century Club five years later.
The show grew from seven professional artists and 30 student artists to now bringing in 40-plus artists, 15 musicians and 200-plus student artists.
A Bit of the Arts will showcase the work of more than 40 artists in media that includes jewelry, printmaking, ceramics, glass, fibers, photography, painting, illustration, and mixed media, organizers said.
In addition to the professional artists, there will be a student gallery on the lower level of the 20th Century Club containing student art from Ardmore Elementary, Colwyn
Elementary, Delaware County Christian Middle and High Schools and Henderson High School.
Judges will be awarding prizes to the top five student artists based on their level of expertise according to their age category. Music will be performed throughout the event and food and pastries from local restaurants will be sold, organizers said.
The corporation and the Lansdowne Business & Professional Association encourage everyone to shop small in Lansdowne as holiday retail shopping is elevated with customer
experiences, sales and specials from small businesses and handcrafted gifts from local artists and designers.

Big doings in the PD in Collingdale
On Monday, Nov. 6, at the Collingdale Borough Hall, Mayor Donna Matteo-Spadea promoted and swore in two new sergeants: Donald Beese and Patrick Crozier.
Officer Steven Worrell was also sworn in.
The mayor and council also presented a plaque to Sgt. Mark Finley on his retirement after 30 years of service to Collingdale.
Victim Assistance Center latest opportunities
The Delaware County Victim Assistance Center in Media has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and to their significant others since 1974.
The nonprofit agency depends on volunteers to meet the needs of clients 24 hours a day. Services include hospital/police interview accompaniment, and telephone crisis intervention.
Volunteers receive a 40-hour training to prepare them for their responsibilities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift.

The center offers free and confidential counseling in person and through a 24-hour hotline to victims of sexual assault.
It provides medical, police and court accompaniment. The center also facilitates support groups for adult survivors of sexual abuse, adult rape survivors, and teen survivors

Elwyn expands behavioral health programs
Elwyn, the iconic human services organization and oldest nonprofit organization of its kind in the United States, and Fellowship Health Resources Inc., a nonprofit behavioral health care organization with services in seven states, announced in 2018 an agreement to affiliate with the intent to expand their behavioral health programs.

Discover Haverford’s Holiday Display Contest
Discover Haverford announces the rules and timeline for the 2023 Holiday Display Contest.
A panel of 15 judges has been assembled who will observe store window displays and facades in Haverford Township from Dec 4 to 10.
To register for the competition a business must inform Discover Haverford by signing up via e-mail at donaldkelly@aol.com. The deadline to register is Nov. 30.
This year the number of categories has been expanded from six to eight with the addition of Most Entertaining Theme and Rookie of the Year for businesses that opened this year.
As previously, the original six categories will continue as well: Most Beautiful Window Display, Most Creative Window Display, Most Effective Marketing Window Display, Most Whimsical Window Display, Most Beautiful Building Façade and for the most outstanding display of all: the Best in Show award.
Certificates of recognition will be awarded to first- and second-place winners in the seven categories and one in Best of Show. When the 15 winners are announced on Dec. 12, their displays will be photographed and placed on Discover Haverford’s website to allow the public to view the displays online.
In addition to the features of the particular category, judges consider: originality, quality of materials and craftmanship, coherence of concept, visual impact and composition, effectiveness of lighting, color and space, effort and entertainment value.
Discover Haverford is a nonprofit through which business owners, commercial property owners, residents and township officials collaborate to strengthen local business districts by helping existing businesses be successful, welcoming new businesses and beautifying business areas.
