Fine art festival connects, supports local community

Launched in 1952, the Beaux Arts Festival of Art offers families and art-enthusiasts the opportunity to connect with the community and enjoy refreshments, live music, interactive art experiences, and a marketplace featuring local vendors. The free community event is Miami’s longest-running juried art festival and attracts more than 200 acclaimed fine art exhibitors from across the country, presenting artwork in a variety of media and price ranges. Register now for the two-day outdoor festival hosted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Watsco Center on the Coral Gables Campus.

Proceeds from the festival benefit the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum and Beaux Arts’ educational programs. For seven decades Beaux Arts has introduced children from underserved communities to the world of art. A volunteer organization, the group works to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the arts in South Florida providing outreach programs where children have opportunities to learn about art and participate in the artistic process.

Beaux Arts provides support to the University’s Lowe Art Museum by assisting with art acquisitions, contributions to the museum’s ongoing operations, and by enhancing its educational programming and outreach.

Explore your creativity—as a family.

In conjunction with the festival, families are invited to stop by the Lowe on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10:30 a.m., for a free art workshop. Led by Lowe museum educators, the class provides experienced artists and curious beginners an opportunity to work with various mediums, colors, and techniques to bring their own unique creations to life.

As part of a monthly program designed for intergenerational groups, the Family Art Workshops offer family members an opportunity to engage with current exhibitions at the Lowe and dive into the rich stories behind their permanent collection.

View a list of arts-related events for this month, including discussions with published authors and visual artists on their work, and an outer space-inspired family-friendly concert at the Frost School of Music. Visit arts.miami.edu for more information on the arts and humanities offerings at the University throughout the year.
