Review: HAIRSPRAY at Desert Theatricals

John Waters made films for queer people long before the word queer was embraced by the community. That he was good friends with Warhol makes complete sense to me. They were cut from the same jib. What makes Waters a far better filmmaker was his ability to give us a fun story steeped in pretty clear messages while Warhol’s films are more like abstract art.

Review: The SHARK is BROKEN at Revolution Stage

The SHARK is BROKEN, a three-man, two-hour play inspired by the technical problems that delayed the filming of Jaws, is now amusing audiences at Revolution Stage Company in Palm Springs through April 19. Directed by Roger Welch, the script by Ian Frost and Joseph Nixon dramatizes the frustrations of actors Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw who were forced to wait aimlessly between takes in the cramped galley of a boat. Revolution Stage is presenting the production in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Jaws.

Previews: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Theatre 29

Casting for the Spring production of Theatre 29’s 2024-25 season, the boundary breaking rock opera “JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR”, have been announced and the cast are already hard at work. This modernistic retelling of “The Greatest Story Ever Told” will take the stage for four weeks beginning April 18th through May 4th.
