Lakwena Maciver Collaborates with Universal Music for BRITs

Universal Music UK announces their collaboration with the visual artist for their BRITs after-party.

“The artwork is about how music brings us together, and how it can lift us and take us out of our present situation and ultimately bring joy and hope,” Lakwena Maciver shares about her collaboration with Universal Music. “It’s polychromatic and euphoric, reflecting that feeling we get from coming together to make, celebrate and listen to music.”

Titled “TIL THE SUN COMES UP”, the iconic London-based visual artist’s work is a vibrant, geometric piece that celebrates the community-building world of music. Celebrating cross-disciplinary creative collaboration, she looked to her sister Abimaro’s lyrics for inspiration — building off of the song’s idea of perseverance and hope and bringing the themes into a visual sphere. Maciver uses colours and imagery that evoke similar feelings of joy and meaning, including her signature kaleidoscopic swirl — a motif that will run through the event itself as well. The piece also serves as a keep-sake for the lucky guests of the event.

“I’m very grateful to be part of the creative community in the UK right now, and collaborating with Universal Music on this project feels like a really meaningful expression of the relationship between art and music,” she continues. “More and more I value relationships, community, and coming together, and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to do that.”

Claire Haffenden, Director of Artist Relations & Events, Universal Music UK, adds: “Lakwena is somebody we’ve long wanted to collaborate with. She’s one of the most in demand visual artists in the world right now so we were thrilled when she agreed to do this for us. The work she has created perfectly captures the essence of our event and I can’t wait for our guests to open their invites and enter Lakwena’s joyful world.”
