OKNOPLAST, second edition of the international competition for visual artists | Contemporary Lynx

December 11, 2023

March 4, 2024

OKNOPLAST, in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK, is announcing the launch of the second edition of the international competition for visual artists. Similar to the previous edition of OKNOPLAST FOR ART, the main challenge is to create artwork using any technique on a canvas, which, in this case, is a window.

The competition is open to individuals who are adults and citizens of the European Union. The deadline for submitting works is March 4, 2024, and the post-competition exhibition and vernissage are planned for June 2024. The winner of this year’s edition will receive a cash prize of 7,000 euros, while the second and third-place winners will receive 3,000 and 2,000 euros, respectively. The awarded works will be presented at the MOCAK museum in Krakow, known for prestigious exhibitions and projects dedicated to contemporary art. Additionally, they will become part of the OKNOPLAST art collection.

To participate in the competition, one must be a creator with their own artistic portfolio or a student or graduate of an art school. Each participant submits only one conceptual work, which serves as a visualization. This will provide the jury with information about the final form of the artistic work. Submitted proposals must be free of watermarks, signatures, and other content identifying the author, ensuring equal opportunities for all participants.

The success of the first edition of OKNOPLAST FOR ART was spectacular, and we had no doubt that we would organize further editions of the event. We invite artists from all over Europe to participate once again. We do not limit the creative freedom of artists in the slightest – you can participate in the competition as a draftsman, graphic artist, painter, sculptor, or even a performer. One thing remains unchanged – the object that must be considered by artists in creating their artistic works is the window produced by OKNOPLAST. We will deliver it to the artist’s studio for them to execute their work on itsays Magdalena Cedro-Czubaj, Head of Marketing OKNOPLAST.

Over two hundred artists from the European Union applied for the first edition of OKNOPLAST FOR ART. Jakub Słomkowski, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, emerged as the winner. The remaining podium places were taken by Andrzej Wełmiński and Mateusz Sak. The high level of competition entries led the jury to award seven additional distinctions. All awarded projects were displayed at an exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK in September 2023.

The need to organize the second edition was evident both for us and our patron, OKNOPLAST. Creating on a window is undoubtedly a unique challenge for an artist. However, in the previous edition of OKNOPLAST FOR ART, we saw that this seemingly extravagant idea could lead to extraordinary artistic results –  comments Maria Anna Potocka, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK.
