Of the 139 Central Texas visual art students advancing to April’s State Visual Arts Scholastic Event, 30 are from Round Rock ISD schools.
The VASE Program showcases students from across the state who excel in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. It is the largest scholastic visual arts event of its type in the country. and showcases student excellence from across the state.
“Our regional and state advancing numbers tell the story of the high-quality art education that Round Rock ISD students receive,” said Lowke. “Our community is proud of all our visual arts students!”
In February, 24 high school visual arts faculty took 319 students/entries to compete in Region 13 North VASE – 239 of our student artist’s pieces achieved the highest score possible, a 4. Thirteen of our high school visual arts faculty have state-qualifying students.
“I am extremely proud of the work our high school visual arts faculty does on a daily basis that supports students to this level of success outside our District,” said Tim Lowke, director of fine arts – visual arts.
Student artists who receive a Rating 4 — Exemplary at April’s state event will be awarded a state medallion and named an All-State Artist by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) and VASE. They will also be eligible for consideration for the highest honor in VASE, the Gold Seal Award. Gold Seal winners will receive a Gold State Medallion. Their artwork will be exhibited in various venues across the state, culminating with the Gold Seal Exhibition at the annual TAEA Fall Conference and the VASE website.
