See how artists create pieces of work at ‘Open Studio’ in Chilliwack

Members of Chilliwack Visual Artists Association bring 5 days of live demos to cultural centre

People can see firsthand how artists create their work during a five-day live event at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association presents ‘Open Studio’ from Tuesday, May 28 to Saturday, June 1 where members will be working in the gallery demonstrating the process they use to create a piece of artwork.

They’re calling it a “live exhibition of artists at work.”

The idea of an “open studio” originated in 17th century Paris, where intellectuals and artists gathered at “salons” hosted by patrons of the arts, and where they discussed and worked on ideas for their art, the association stated in a statement.

The modern day open studio is an event where artists and makers open up their space to the public for a limited time.

It is intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation, and to allow members of the public to engage with the artists as they create in a variety of of media.

Open Studio, a live exhibition and demonstration by the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association runs May 28 to June 1 from noon to 5 p.m. each day inside the O’Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
