Visual artists invited to display their work at Gussapolooza

Art Zone is open to all mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, ceramics and jewelry; festival runs Sept. 13 to 15 in Cookstown

Local artists can showcase their work and connect with industry professionals at Gussapolooza Music and Arts Festival Sept. 13 to 15 on the Georgian Bay Steam Show Grounds in Cookstown.

Introducing the Gussapolooza Art Zone, the outdoor and online art fair will celebrate creativity, community, and artistic diversity in a lively, open-air setting.

“We are excited to create opportunities and showcase local talent across the artistic spectrum. This year we have dedicated an entire section of the festival grounds to visual artists to showcase their art, meet industry professionals, and make lasting connections. We couldn’t be more excited to see who shows up!” said main organizer Valerie Robson in a news release.

Curated by passionate local curator and art advisor Liza Zhurkovskaya, the Art Zone aims to support diverse voices and provide creative opportunities beyond traditional gallery spaces.

Zhurkovskaya’s expertise will transform the Art Zone into a dynamic platform where local artists can let their talent and creativity shine, she said.

The Gussapolooza Art Zone is open to all artists, welcoming a diverse range of artistic expressions including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, ceramics, jewelry and digital art.

With no specific theme, artists are encouraged to submit pieces that reflect their personal style and vision. Each artist can submit up to three pieces, with the submission deadline set for Saturday, June 23 at 11:59 p.m.

A panel of judges from the art community will review all submissions based on originality, artistic merit, and suitability for outdoor display. Accepted artists will be notified by Friday, June 28.

Participation in the Gussapolooza Art Zone offers numerous benefits for selected artists.

Each artist will receive a designated exhibit space to display their work, providing a unique platform to engage with fellow artists, art enthusiasts, and potential buyers. Artists will gain valuable publicity through features on the festival’s website, social media platforms, and promotional materials.

Additionally, all exhibited artworks can be made available for sale, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going directly to the artists.
