URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — After more than 10 years, the Greater Community AIDS Project’s popular Artists Against AIDS event is returning to Champaign-Urbana.

The fundraiser was held annually for 20 years, beginning in 1993. In this volunteer exhibition, the works of hundreds of local artists were showcased to help support the GCAP. Now, Artists Against AIDS is making a comeback for the first time since 2013.

This event will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.

The VIP Artists Against AIDS Reception will take place on Friday, with tickets going for $50. Tickets earn you early access and VIP programming. The reception will feature wine, appetizers, musical performances, and more.

Artists Against AIDS will then be free and open to the public on Saturday.

GCAP has partnered with 40 North to host and judge an art show at the event. On Thursday, March 21, there will also be a special opening night performance of award-winning musical “Falsettos” at The Station Theater. The story follows an LGBTQ+ couple living through the AIDS epidemic. For Thursday’s performance, ticket sales will be split between The Station Theater and the GCAP.

For tickets and more information, visit the GCAP’s website.
