Calling all artists! Plein Air Event Sept. 21 in Fairview’s Bowie Nature Park

Calling all local artists! The Second Annual Fairview Plein Air Event is coming to Bowie Nature Park in September!

In conjunction with the 2024 Fairview Nature Fest,  the Fairview Arts Council (FAC) will be hosting their Second Annual Plein Air Painting competition in Bowie Nature Park on Saturday, September 21 with special thanks to the City of Fairview and Fairview Parks Department.

FAC members and event organizer Michelle Murakami urges artists of all levels to join the fun, stating, “We are ready for you to register for the Plein Air Event at Bowie Park’s Nature Fest for September 21, 2024!”

Registration is underway and will continue until Wednesday, September 18.

On the day of the event, plein air artists will check in at the Fairview Arts Council Booth from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with $15 cash or check made out to the Fairview Arts Council, which is a tax-deductible, non-profit organization.

Artist can then pick their spot to paint around Lake Van with lots of beautiful, scenic views to choose from.

At 2 p.m., the FAC will set for a wet sale of the painting in Shelter One by Lake Van.

Judging and preview of paintings will begin at 2:30 p.m. which will include door prizes to the registered artists who must be present to win.

Murakami said, “We are thrilled to introduce you to our esteemed judges, Ron York, Kim Michaud and Patricia Hudson!”

The judges bring a wealth of artistic knowledge to the competition. Ron York is an artist and retired art gallery owner of York & Friends Fine Art. Kim Michaud is an Interior designer and owner of Bénie Home Furnishings in Fairview. Patricia Hudson is an artist, retired high school art teacher and Dickson Art Guild president.

The official awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. with the announcement of Best of Show $350, sponsored by Mayor, Lisa Anderson and Goin’ Postal of Fairview; Second Place $250 (sponsor TBD); Third Place $150, sponsored by Fairview Arts; and People’s Choice $100, sponsored by Just B U Studio.

The wet paint sale will take place between 3:15 p.m. – 4 p.m. with no commission charged on sales. Artists must be present to broker their own sale.

Fairview Nature Fest will take place in Bowie Nature Park, 7211 Bowie Lake Road, Fairview.
