Creative Art Society puts out call for artists – The News Herald


The Creative Art Society is hosting its annual Fine Art Juried Show, Arts & Crafts, and Unframed Matted Show & Sale and is looking for artists to showcase their work.

The event will be held at the Downriver Council of the Arts, 81 Chestnut St, Wyandotte, from Oct. 6-24. Entry requirements and limitations:

• Open to artists 18 years or older.

• Original artwork and crafts (prints permitted for postcards and note cards and unframed artwork).

• Fine Art entries: Artists may enter 3 hanging pieces of artwork and/or 3-dimensional pieces under 50lbs. All hanging  artwork and 2D and 3D artwork will be limited to 160 inches in perimeter (including matte and frame). Hanging artwork must be framed, wired from hooks at each side and ready for hanging. No saw tooth hangers. 3-dimensional pieces must be prepared for proper display. Pictures (larger than 16×20) must be framed with Plexiglass excluding pastels.

• Smaller works and crafts Entries: 5 pieces of jewelry or craft items (artwork no larger than 36 inches in perimeter) .Hanging artwork must be framed, wired from hooks at each side and ready for hanging. No saw tooth hangers allowed. 3-dimensional pieces must be prepared for proper display. Assemblage art made from found, reused or handmade items not to exceed 4 feet.

• Unframed Matted Artwork:  All Unframed Matted Artwork not to exceed 72 inches in circumference must be in plastic sleeves.

• No changes accepted after submission. All work must be for sale. The committee reserves the right to reject unprepared entries and questionable work. Tables will be provided for small items (i.e. jewelry, sculpture, glass, etc.).

• Artists are responsible for their own insurance. Bins will be provided for the Unframed Matted artwork section of the show.

• Artwork will be displayed in bins. No copies or prints of Fine Art entries.

• No commercial molds, patterns or kits, no resale of purchased items.

• Artwork will not be accepted without a label with the artist name, address, contact info, title, price and medium.

• Entries must be postmarked no later than Saturday, Sept. 21.

• Delivery of the artwork, Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., to the Downriver Council for the Arts.

• Pick up Artwork: Saturday, October 26  (10 a.m.- noon) (work not picked up will be subject to a $20 holding fee).

• All artists must report for jury results and/or pick-up declined artwork at the Downriver Council of the Arts on Sept. 28. Calls will be made to artists if artwork is not accepted between 1-2 p.m. to the phone number listed on the application).

• Make check/money order payable to Creative Art Society, Mail to: Kris Stanek, 13396 Pullman, Southgate, Michigan 48195.

• Show is open and free for the public.

• Opening reception, Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1-5 p.m. Hours: Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Wednesday, noon. – 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, noon -8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

• Artist Demonstrations: Oct. 12 and 19, noon – 3 p.m.

• Awards: First place ($300); second place ($200); third place ($100); Artist Choice Award ($100); Honorable Mention Awards ($30.00). Commission: 25% to benefit Creative Art Society
