Crosslake Community Center showcases Brainerd artist – Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

CROSSLAKE

— Lucy Nesheim, a charter member of the Brainerd Area Art Club, has artwork on display at the Crosslake Library at the Crosslake Community Center.

Nesheim has been an integral part of the Brainerd community for more than 60 years, from work in local government and health care to decades of helping to run a small business.

Nesheim has taken classes from Rose Eden, Russ Norbert, Bunny Humphrey, Ev Matthies, William Schimmel and numerous others. She was honored to have her painting selected to hang at the Swedish American Institute for a time.

Nesheim and her husband, Frank, owned and operated Nesheim Bait and Tackle and Minnow Hatchery for 35 years. She had over a 20-year hiatus from painting to help operate the bait business and to serve six terms on the Brainerd City Council.

After retiring from the city council and the bait business, she returned to oil painting.

Regarding her artwork, Nesheim said: “Expression is the whole purpose. The creative process is important, but even more satisfying is creating a work of art.”

She has an art studio and gallery in her basement in Brainerd,

Six years ago Nesheim renewed her efforts to oil paint at The Center in Brainerd on Tuesdays with other artists.

In recent years she attended Dillman’s Art Workshop retreat in Wisconsin and Alliance for the Arts Workshop in Fort Myers, Florida. In February 2020, out of more than 500 entries, one of her paintings was selected to be exhibited in the All Florida Juried Exhibition at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “Pineandlakes Echo Journal.” Often, the “Pineandlakes Echo Journal” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
