La Crosse Children’s Museum seeks artists to help celebrate its 25th anniversary

The Gertrude Salzer Gordon Children’s Museum of La Crosse opened in downtown La Crosse on Feb. 28, 1999, and will soon celebrate 25 years of “learning and fun… rolled into one!”

The organization is inviting local artists to submit art to commemorate the anniversary.

The imagery for the art should be inspired by the museum’s 25 years of offering opportunities for the young and young at heart to learn, connect and grow through interactive play.

Art must be two-dimensional with outside dimensions of 24 by 24 inches or 12 by 12 inches. Media may include oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, gouache, paper, photography, etc. Work can be on wrapped canvas, board-mounted, or framed without matting. Wire the back of the art for hanging.

All pieces must be appropriate for viewing by all ages. There is no entry fee.

The winning piece will be selected by a judging committee. The winning artist will receive $1,000 as purchase of their art and rights to reproduce by the museum.

A People’s Choice award winner will receive $125. Sponsored Kids Choice and Artist Choice awards may be added.

The winning piece will be professionally photographed and may be used by the Children’s Museum on commemorative products for sale.

Submission of art is due by Jan. 26. Submit to River City Gallery, 321 Main St., La Crosse, WI 54601.

If more than 25 submittals are received, a jury process will select the top 25 pieces for display and consideration for prizes.

The top 25 pieces will be introduced to the public during the First Friday Art Walk Reception at River City Gallery on Feb. 2 and will be displayed at the Gallery until Feb. 28. People’s Choice voting will commence on this date, in-gallery and online, to close on Feb. 20.

Winners will be announced Feb. 22.

All pieces will be available for sale at River City Gallery, 321 Main St., La Crosse.
