Local fundraiser for Palestinian artist

Ala Alwadiya lost her home and is stuck in southern Gaza, local group Boise to Palestine has organized a fundraiser.

BOISE, Idaho — Over 80% of Palestinians have been displaced, and over 34,000 have been killed by the Israel government following a 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel.

Around the world there have been protests and calls for a ceasefire, and recently several American campuses have seen students, and professors, arrested for protesting.

Locally, a group called Boise to Palestine is hosting a fundraising event to help a Palestinian artist who has lost her home and is currently stuck in southern Gaza. The event called “Seen, Heard and Felt” will have poetry readings, refreshments and art people can purchase. The fundraiser is on Saturday, April 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Linen Building in downtown Boise.

Ala Alwadiya is a graphic design artist and is trying to leave Gaza with her family but lack the necessary funds to do so. At the event people can see her art, listen to Palestinian poetry and buy various items. All proceeds go to Alwadiya.

“Every donation, regardless of its size, represents a ray of hope in the midst of despair. It symbolizes the opportunity to rebuild what was lost and to create a future filled with promise and opportunity. Your generosity is not merely a financial contribution; it is a lifeline that sustains us during our darkest hours and serves as a testament to the power of humanity to overcome adversity,” Alwadiya stated.
