Redlands Art Association program will focus on artist’s work documenting Joshua trees – Redlands Daily Facts

Photographer, artist and conservationist Fred Brashear Jr. will present “Joshua Trees: Protection for an Endemic Treasure. A talk and presentation on my work documenting Joshua trees” 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Redlands Art Association Gallery.

Brashear’s photographs show the condition of Joshua trees in Joshua Tree National Park, and his presentation will include discussion of the procedures he went through to get permission to use downed Joshua trees to make paper to paint on, according to a news release.

Brashear is a Southern California photo-based artist focusing on the relationship between humans and the natural environment.

Since graduating from Cal State San Bernardino with a Master of Fine Arts degree, he has taught photography at various colleges and universities in Southern California and has maintained a professional art practice, participating in exhibitions Photo LA, according to the news release.

He received a 2023 National Association of Counties award for the exhibit “Handle With Care” at the San Bernardino County Museum.

Brashear’s Jan. 23 presentation is part of Redlands Art Association’s monthly series of free programs open to the public. Programs are the fourth Tuesday of the month from September through May.
