The Cordial Eye is offering something every artist dreams of — financial support.
The Hyannis nonprofit is accepting applications for 16 paid Creative Futures fellowships. The fellowships are open to artists from any background. People of color, disabled people, low-income people, queer people, and those who have been impacted by the criminal justice system, will be prioritized, according to the website.
Eight adults will be selected for the Artist Fellow Track and another eight for the Teaching Artist Development Track. The artist fellow track is open to artists in any genre who aspire to have a career in the creative economy, according to Mary George, co-executive director of The Cordial Eye.
The artist track will pair each fellow with a local arts professional for weekly individual mentorship, host weekly cohort classes, provide free studio space, and compensate each intern $3,600 and assistance with purchasing materials for their participation in the program, according to the website.
“The teaching artist track is for artists and creative workers in the community that want to expand their educational skills, particularly for a community art setting, like studios, nonprofit organizations and museums,” George said.
The Teaching Artist Track will pair each fellow with a local arts professional for student teaching and mentorship, host weekly cohort classes, and compensate each intern $1,600 and assistance with purchasing materials for their participation in the program. The program does not provide licensure or certification, she added.
Funding for the fellowships comes from the state Urban Agenda grant program and the state Community Empowerment and Reinvestment program, according to George. Applications are open until Jan. 7.
