Glen Powell Thought Sydney Sweeney Rumors Were “Disorienting and Unfair”

Glen Powell is learning firsthand how difficult it is to be a movie star. In his new Men’s Health cover story, The Hit Man star opens up about his rumored affair with his Anything But You costar Sydney Sweeney.

This summer, Powell and Sweeney received a wave of media attention while shooting their forthcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You in Australia, sparking rumors that the two were cheating on their respective partners. The rumors only intensified when Powell broke up with his longtime girlfriend, model and designer Gigi Paris, amid the controversy. Paris reportedly unfollowed both Powell and Sweeney on Instagram and cryptically captioned a post “know your worth & onto the next.” Sweeney, however, is still engaged to fiancé Jonathan Davino who was photographed carrying a bag and a dog bed out of their shared LA home this spring.

Powell briefly touched on the rumors, which he was careful to call “the alleged affair,” with Men’s Health. “When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair,” said Powell. “But what I’m realizing is that’s just a part of this gig now.”

The Top Gun: Maverick star went on to describe hitting his “low of lows” post-breakup, when he was shooting Twisters in Oklahoma. “I needed to put love into something,” said Powell. The answer? Adopting his dog, Brisket, a little white pup with “the heart of a bear,” according to the actor. “I saw Brisket’s face and fell in love.”

While Brisket is currently the significant other in Powell’s life, he is dating again, although the process has become more fraught given his new recognizability. “If you talk to a girl or something like that, and you’re like, We have a really great connection, we’re having a really great interaction, and then they ask you for a selfie, it’s like, Oh…,” Powell told the magazine. He recognizes that now is the time to capitalize on his newfound fame, even if that comes at the expense of his love life.

“When the sun is shining, you gotta make hay,” he said. “And you gotta chase this while you got it. And on a romantic level, you gotta find a teammate who is down for that adventure, down for that uncertainty, down for that thing. It’s a lot to deal with. Honestly, I really try to be a great partner. When I love, I love hard. I also understand that the speed and uncertainty of my life is a very hard thing to put up with.”
