Portlaoise visual artist named as Creative Spark’s artist-in-residence

Portlaoise visual artist Paddy Critchley has been named as one of Creative Spark’s 2024 artist-in-residence.

Creative Spark, based in County Louth, is a not-for-profit company established to promote creative and cultural industries, including new and emerging businesses and freelance practitioners.
Paddy graduated from Fine Art Painting at the Limerick School of Art & Design in 2021. Over the years, Paddy’s artwork has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, earning him accolades such as the De Veres Award for significant artwork at the RHA Annual Exhibition. He also has work in the Limerick City Gallery of Art and the Hunt Museum’s Permanent collection. Paddy is a painter, with a keen interest in the theatre of the absurd. Additionally, working as a painter and decorator and serving his time in the trade, Paddy integrates aspects of this profession into his artwork.

The Creative Spark Residency Programme provides opportunities for visual artists and art professionals to research and develop their practices. It supports both emerging and established visual artists working in any medium.

Each residency is  supported by provision of a shared studio space in Creative Spark along with access to all the facilities.

The residency, which is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland, is two to three months in duration and gives artists the opportunity to further establish their practice or to learn another art form.
