Local students shine at OAEA’s Emerging Artist Show – Examiner Online

Benjamin Logan students Cayden Brown and Sophia VanVoorhis showcased their artistic talent at the prestigious Ohio Art Education Association’s Emerging Artist Show at the Columbus College of Art and Design.

Although Charley Hardman, the Fourth Congressional District winner, was unable to attend due to her return travel from Washington, D.C., her work was also honored alongside students from across Ohio.

The event highlighted the exceptional artistry of these students, with Cayden being selected as a top winner in the mixed media category. Cayden’s achievement was recognized with a prize pack of Blick art materials.

Their artwork was on display from June 17-28 at the Columbus College of Art and Design.

A celebratory reception took place on June 28,, where the local students and teachers were honored. During the reception, students were awarded certificates and prizes, with some works receiving special recognition in different categories. Benjamin Logan High School visual art teacher Jennifer Davis attended the reception with Cayden and Sophia.

Out of 200 submissions, 138 pieces were selected for this juried show, representing the nine OAEA regions in Ohio.

The exhibit, targeting Ohio students in grades nine through 12, aimed to promote art education and recognize quality student art through various state and regional exhibits.

This exhibit was designed to motivate and inspire emerging artists to excel in various forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, computer art, photography and printing.
